Professor Isabelle C Van Gelder

Isabelle C. Van Gelder obtained her MD and PhD in Groningen, and completed her training cardiology and electrophysiology there. Since 1995 she is cardiologist at the University Medical Center Groningen and since 2006 Professor of Cardiology at the University of Groningen. She is chair of the ESC Atrial Fibrillation 2024 guidelines, treasurer of EHRA 2022-2024 and Associate Editor of Heart. She gave the ESC 2019 René Laënnec lecture on clinical cardiology and received the ESC silver medal for her work in clinical Cardiology. She received > €20 million research grants for atrial fibrillation research, published >300 peer reviewed papers, and is a promotor of > 25 PhD students. She is PI of >30 trials including the RACE trials, STEEER-AF and EHRA-PATH. Her research focuses on understanding the susceptibility to atrial fibrillation and its adverse outcomes.
