Biography
J. William ("Bill") McEvoy is Professor of Cardiology at University College Cork (UCC) and a Consultant Cardiologist at Cork University Hospital, IRL. He is also Medical and Research Director of the National Institute for Prevention and Cardiovascular Health (NIPC). Prof. McEvoy is a 2004 first class honours graduate of UCC School of Medicine. In 2008, he joined the Osler Medical Housestaff at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. He subsequently completed general cardiology fellowship at Hopkins including advanced training in cardiac prevention and imaging. He holds Masters degrees in cardiovascular epidemiology and health professionals education, both from Johns Hopkins University. He also holds a PhD in medicine from UCC. He returned from USA to Ireland in 2018 to University of Galway prior to moving home to Cork in 2026. Prof. McEvoy’s research focuses on testing novel biomarkers of risk and clinical epidemiology; with an emphasis on hypertension and atherosclerosis.
