Dr. J.M. (José) Montero-Cabezas (MD, PhD, FESC) is an interventional cardiologist at the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC). He completed is cardiology training at 12 de Octubre University Hospital (Complutense University, Madrid) and a fellowship in interventional cardiology in Leiden. He holds a PhD from Leiden University, a master degree in healthcare management and administration (CEU University, Spain) and a 1-year postgraduate program in clinical research at Harvard Medical School (United States). Dr. Montero has a special interest in complex percutaneous coronary interventions (particularly CTOs), mechanical circulatory support, invasive treatment of acute pulmonary embolism, and structural interventions (TAVI). He is a co-founder and core member of the LUMC Shock Team (a multidisciplinary team focused on treating cardiogenic shock patients) and ALERT (Acute Pulmonary Embolism Response Team). Additionally, Dr. Montero is the co-coordinator of the local SCAD program.
