JORGE ILHA GUIMARÃES graduated in Medicine in 1972, at the Federal University of Rio Grande Foundation, Brazil; completed Medical Internship in Cardiology at the Institute of Cardiology of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, in 1974; received the title of Specialist in Cardiology in 1983; is Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology; took 24 courses in Brazil and abroad; gave 459 lectures and conferences, published 89 articles, most for the journal Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia (Brazilian Archives of Cardiology); is co-author of 6 books and author of 3 books; was Medical and Technical Director of the Mãe de Deus Hospital from 1990 to 1994; was President of the Brazilian Society of Cardiology/RS in 1992; coordinated the elaboration of 58 guidelines for the Brazilian Society of Cardiology from 2002 to 2005; was the president of the Brazilian Society of Cardiology for the period of 2010 through 2012
