Hector I. Michelena, M.D., is a board-certified cardiologist echocardiographer with a special interest in structural heart diseases, heart valve diseases, diseases of the aorta and all echocardiographic modalities. He is heavily involved in clinical practice, research and education at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester. Dr. Michelena is Director of Intra-Operative Echocardiography, and his research focuses on bicuspid aortic valve, aortopathy, aortic stenosis and regurgitation, mitral regurgitation and tricuspid regurgitation. He has published over 180 peer-reviewed papers and multiple book chapters. Dr. Michelena is a Mayo Clinic-recognized top educator, recipient of the Mayo Clinic patient-experience provider recognition award, and a nationally- and internationally-renowned speaker. Dr. Michelena was the American College of Cardiology U.S. chair for the ACC-Latin-America conference(2017-19) and currently member of the ACC Lifelong Learning Oversight Committee 2019-2022.
