Doctor Antonio Manuel Lax

University of Murcia, Murcia (Spain)

I obtained the Doctorate Extraordinary Award in 2012. Initially, my research field was the characterization of the molecular mechanisms related to the cell death induced by Ca2+ after cardiac ischemia. One of my initial targets was the functional characterization of the enzyme Ca2+-ATPase of Sarcoplasmic Reticulum (SERCA 2a) using cardiac microsomal extracts obtained from muscle of the hind legs of rabbits and cardiomyocytes. I have achieved two competitive post-doctoral contracts, Juan de la Cierva in 2010 (Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness) and Sara Borrell in 2014 (Institute of Health Carlos III, ISCIII; Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness) and a contracts for access to the Spanish System for Science, Technology and Innovation Research Staff, which allowed me to continue my research activities at the University Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca in Murcia (Spain).
