Biography
Dr María Josefa Forteza is a cardiovascular researcher and principal investigator at IIS La Fe, Valencia, supported by the Miguel Servet programme. Her work centres on immunometabolism in atherosclerosis and cardio-oncology, with a particular interest in how immune and metabolic pathways shape cardiovascular disease and its relationship with cancer. She trained and later held an Assistant Professor position at Karolinska Institutet, where she built a strong international research profile. Her research spans vascular inflammation, extracellular vesicles and translational multi-omics. She has authored publications in leading journals, including Cardiovascular Research, Nature Cardiovascular Research, Circulation and Nature Immunology, and regularly contributes to international collaborations. She is also committed to mentoring young researchers and supervising international doctoral projects.
