José Tuñón is Head of Cardiology at the Jiménez Díaz Foundation (2018) and Full-Professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid (2022). He is a clinical cardiologist and researcher in the fields of atherosclerosi, lipid-lowering therapy, inflammation, biomarkers, proteomics, mineral metabolism and vitamin D. He was a nucleus member of the Working Group on Atherosclerosis and Vascular Biology of the ESC, representative of affiliate societies in the Spanish Society of Cardiology, President of the Castilian Society of Cardiology, and coordinator of the Basic Research Group of the Inter-American Society of Cardiology and Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology. He has obtained 32 competitive grants as PI, published more than 170 articles (h index 54, Feb2026). He has been a speaker or moderator on more than 270 occasions at national and international conferences/symposia and has supervised 21 doctoral theses.
