Dr Hardman qualified from University College London (UCL) & UCLH. Research into the interval-force relationship in single myocytes, isometrically contracting mammalian myocardium, & studies in people in AF at cardiac catheterisation, led to her 1992 PhD, and a lifelong interest in the mechanical & electrical function of the human heart. Following a BHF Intermediate Fellowship she was appointed Senior Lecturer/Consultant Cardiologist at UCL, & Whittington Hospital, 1995. Diverse research & development of an innovative HF service followed. Membership of the BSCR & BSH Boards & then BSH Chair (2011-2013) facilitated collaborations across Europe, with involvement in key HF initiatives: recognition of HF as a specialty with HF training program & HF related RSM lecture series, & clinical guideline’s (ESC 2016 & NICE 2010, 2014 & 2018). She is current deputy clinical lead to the National HF Audit. As a member of the HFA of the ESC committees one of her legacies is the HF awareness poster.
