Dr. Shanmugam graduated from King’s College, University of London with a 1st Class BSc honours degree in 1998. He later completed an International Fellowship at the National Heart Centre/ Duke-NUS Singapore in Device Therapy and Advanced Cardiac Imaging, before being appointed Consultant Cardiologist at St George’s University Hospital, London (2013). Clinical interests: General Cardiology, Heart failure and Cardiac Imaging (Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Echocardiography). He is clinical lead for the optimization of patients with Cardiac Resynchronisation Therapy and the Cardiac Sarcoid services. Dr. Shanmugam was an integral part of the team that developed and implemented the first national Heart Failure Unit in the UK in 2016. He also has an interest in Lifestyle Medicine with a particular interest in cardiovascular nutrition as a therapeutic intervention in both patients with heart failure and ischemic heart disease.
