Professor Eva Gerdts

Professor Eva Gerdts is full professor of cardiology at the University of Bergen (UiB) and senior consultant in cardiology at Haukeland University Hospital, Bergen, Norway. She graduated from the UiB School of medicine in 1981, received board certification in internal medicine in 1991 and in cardiology in 1994. Her research has focused on hypertensive heart disease, including sex differences and impact of comorbidities like obesity and aortic valve stenosis. She defended her dr. med. thesis in 1999 at UiB and trained as postdoctoral fellow with professor Richard B. Devereux at Weill Cornell Medicine, New York, USA in 2001 and 2005-6. She was the first woman to be appointed full professor in cardiology 2006 in Norway. She has published 240 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and contributed with several book chapters on hypertensive heart disease. She chairs the Center for research on cardiac disease in women at UiB. She is member of the Norwegian Academy of Science & Letters
