After Heleen Westland obtained her bachelor degree in nursing she started working as a registered nurse at the cardiology and cardio-thoracic surgery department. She worked as a senior medium care nurse at the cardio-thoracic surgery department for five years. In 2009 she obtained her Master of Science degree (cum laude) in Nursing Science. In 2008 she started working as a clinical nurse leader at the cardiology department, in which she focussed at developing and implementing healthcare policy and innovations to improve quality of nursing care. In 2013 she started her PhD project within the Tailored Self-managemenT & E-health (TASTE) research line at University Medical Center Utrecht in the Netherlands. During her PhD project she obtained her Master of Science degree in Clinical Epidemiology at the Utrecht University. Currently, Heleen continues her research activities at the University Medical Center Utrecht.
