Biography
Francisco Fernández-Avilés, MD, PhD, FESC, FACC, is Emeritus Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) at Complutense University of Madrid and Head of Cardiology at the Hospital San Rafael in Madrid. Internationally recognized in interventional and clinical cardiology, he has combined patient care, teaching, and traslational science. His research has focused on coronary syndromes, valvular disease, and myocardial regeneration. He has published extensively (cumulative IF 1730, 13,727 citations, H-index 53). For over 15 years he directed the Spanish Cardiovascular Research Network (Ministry of Science). He plays an active role in multiple international organizations as faculty at leading congresses in the field, and as an expert in CV care and research planning and evaluation. He has served the ESC for decades, as Vice-President, founder of the WG on CV Regeneration and Repair (CARE), member of the European Heart Journal Editorial Board, and former Editor-in-Chief of EHJ Supplements.
