Biography
Professor Roland Klingenberg, FESC is a board-certified internist and cardiologist working as head of cardiology at Krankenhaus Nordwest in Frankfurt, Germany. His current interests comprise the management of patients with Acute Coronary Syndromes and gaining insights into the underlying pathogenesis with a focus on inflammation, biomarkers and lipids. After studies of medicine at the universities of Tübingen and Freiburg, Germany, Houston, TX and Tampa, FL U.SA. he continued with a residency in internal medicine in Heidelberg (Prof. Dr. H. A. Katus). A postdoc period in vascular inflammation with Prof. Dr. G. K. Hansson in Stockholm, Sweden followed. Moving on to Zurich, Switzerland, he was recruited into the Special University Medicine Acute Coronary Syndromes (SPUM-ACS) programme with a focus on the identification and evaluation of biomarkers with Prof. T. F. Lüscher. For special training in interventional cardiology he joined Prof. C. W. Hamm at Kerckhoff-Klinik in Bad Nauheim.
