Doctor Joris Vermassen, MD, is trained as an anaesthesiologist and intensive care physician at Ghent University. Since 2013 he is a consultant intensivist on the Medical Intensive Care Unit of the University Hospital Ghent. His domains of interest include sepsis and septic shock, artificial intelligence in the ICU, rehabilitation after ICU and end-of-life practice. As medical donor coordinator he is also extensively involved in organ donation and he is an advanced life support instructor. Joris Vermassen is a member of the Belgian Society of Intensive Care (SIZ), the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) and the Belgian Resuscitation Council (BRC).
