He became a certified cardiologist in 1984 after his cardiology training at the St Antonius Hospital (AVG Bruschke, CA Ascoop) in Utrecht/Nieuwegein, The Netherlands. From 1986 through 2019 he was a practicing cardiologist at the Gelre Hospital in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands from 1986 through 2019. He special focus was on nuclear cardiology, clinical research and thoracic aortic diseases. On 14th february 2019 he obtained his PhD degree at the University of Amsterdam (Prof. BJM Mulder), on a thesis titled “Puzzling the ascending aortic aneurysm, pieces towards a better outcome in patients with thoracic aortic diseases”. After his retirement he is continuing his scientific work in the field of the bicuspid aortic valve and ascending aortic aneurysm.
