Mr Alfonso Penarroya

Health Research Institute of the Principality of Asturias (ISPA), Oviedo (Spain)

Alfonso Peñarroya is an MD and PhD student at the Health Research Institute of the Principality of Asturias and at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) interested in computational science and clinical epigenetics. He also graduated with honours from a Biotechnology BSc and from both a MSc in Biomedicina & Molecular Oncology, and a MSc in Biostatistics and Bioinformatics. After a short stage in Vienna working on a a bioassay for genotixicy detection, he joined Dr. F. Fraga's Cancer Epigenetics and Nanomaterials research group, where he remains to this day. In recent years he has been involved in various projects, including the analysis of the role of cell replication in the phenomenon of epigenetic drift, the obtention of diagnostic epigenetic biomarkers for thyroid tumours, the search for new epigenetic therapeutic targets in colorectal cancer, the study of the phenotypic expressivity of pathogenic variants, or the multiomic impact of environmental neurostimulation.
