Prof. Paola Cattaneo is a group leader at the University of Milan and at the Monzino Cardiology Center (Italy). She graduated in Pharmacology in 2008 at the University of Milan and obtained her PhD in Molecular Medicine in 2013 from the same University. She then trained in the Department of Cardiology at the University of California San Diego (US) with the support of a Marie Curie fellowship and at the Institute of Cardiac Regeneration in Frankfurt (Germany) where she explored molecular mechanisms underlying cardiogenesis and cardiac fibrosis. With the ultimate goal of developing regenerative therapies for the injured heart, since 2023, thanks to an ERC Starting great and other awards, her independent research aims to decipher mechanisms by which transcription factors, epigenetic enzymes and regulatory elements control cardiomyocyte proliferation/maturation and activation of cardiac fibroblasts.
