Roberto Lorusso is Full Professor of Cardiac Surgery and Extracorporeal Life Support at the Maastricht University, Deputy Director of the Department of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery and ECLS Program Director at the Maastricht University Medical Centre, and Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht, Maastricht, The Netherlands. Founder of the Euro-ELSO scientific organization (first as Conference Chair, then as President, and finally as Past-President), organizing two European congresses (2012 and 2017 in Rome and Maastricht, respectively). Scientific Secretary of the Italian Society for Cardiac Surgery (2007 and 2008). Director of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) from 2009 to 2012. Head of the Cardiac Surgery Experimental Lab (from 1999 to 2010) in Brescia, Italy. Winner of the EACTS Young Investigator's Award (1995). Editor-in-Chief of the MultiMedia Manual of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, Associate Editor of the Journal of Cardiac Surgery and Artificial Organs.
