Prof. Renata Castro, MD, PhD, FACP, FACC, FESC is a brazilian cardiologist specialized in Sports Cardiology and Heart failure. Dr Castro completed a two year post-doctoral fellowship at the Brigham and Women's Hospital - Harvard Medical School, where she has studied cardiopulmonary exercise testing in patients with heart failure. She was mentored by Prof Linney Stevenson during this fellowship sponsored by Prof Peter Libby. Back to Brazil, Dr Castro is the chief medical officer of Ipanema Health Club, a private sports medicine and cardiology outpatient clinic and is also responsible for the cardiology fellowship at Hospital Naval Marcilio Dias. Dr Castro has authored more than 80 papers in the field of cardiology and exercise physiology.
Dr Castro is a former kickboxing athlete and conquered the Panamerican championship in 2014. Although she does not compete anymore, she still trains regularly. She speaks English, Portuguese and Spanish fluently.
