Professor Markus Glatzel

Prof. Dr. Markus Glatzel is currently employed as Full Professor of Neuropathology and Director of the Institute of Neuropathology University Medical Center, Hamburg-Eppendorf, there he also serves as the Chairman of the Diagnostic Center. He studied Medicine in Ulm and Freiburg in Germany and did his research training at the University of Zurich in Switzerland where he also completed his training in Neuropathology. His scientific interest lies in translational neuropathology focusing on transmissible spongiform encephalopathies and other pathogen-caused neurological diseases most recently also on COVID-19. He is the recipient of numerous scientific awards, has made key contributions to the field on prion neuropathogenesis and since 2019 serves as editor in chief of “Brain Pathology”.
