Ms Ciara Heverin

Ciara Heverin graduated from The Robert Gordon University, Scotland with a B.Sc (Hons) in Nutrition and Dietetics. She has been a senior dietitian since 1996 working in the area of diabetes. In 2007 she moved to her current post as Primary Care Diabetes Dietitian in Co Galway, Ireland. The post aim is to develop a more integrated approach to diabetes care. This has involved provision of structured education to patients (DESMOND, DAFNE, BRUCIE ) particularly in the area of self management and education to health care professionals in a variety of programmes including being a tutor in the NUIG diabetes in primary care module. She is a trainer and assessor of educators in the DESMOND programme in Ireland and the UK. She has completed a Masters in Health Science (Clinical Education). Her research thesis looked at the impact of training in adult education and how this may alter the delivery of education in all settings.
