Associate Professor Raul Santos

Dr. Santos is director of the Lipid Clinic at the Heart Institute (InCor) and associate professor of the University of São Paulo (USP) Medical School, Brazil. He is also a researcher at the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein in São Paulo. Currently he is the president of the International Atherosclerosis Society (IAS). After completing his training in cardiology Dr. Santos obtained master and PhD degrees in food science at the USP pharmacy school. His research interests include lipid metabolism, severe forms of genetic dyslipidemias, especially familial hypercholesterolemia and HDL deficiency, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and imaging in atherosclerosis focusing on vascular calcification. He is one of the associate editors of Atherosclerosis, the Journal of Clinical Lipidology and the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology.
