Past-President of the Spanish Society of Hypertension (2004-2006), Honorary member of the Latin American Society of Hypertension, Interamerican Society of Cardiology, Central American Society of Hypertension, Argentinian Society of Hypertension, Venezuelan Society of Hypertension, Peruvian Society of Cardiology and Portuguese Society of Hypertension. Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London. Emeritus Fellow of the ESC. Member of the Council of the ESH (2007-2015), currently “Executive-Officer” for relationships with Latin America. First Chair of the ESC Council on Hypertension (2012-2016); Past-Chair of the ESH WG on the Brain & Hypertension (2014-2016); and past-member of the ESC-CPG (2016-2018). Editor of 58 books on hypertension, published more than 600 papers in peer review international journals.
