Dr. Alexander Lyon is a Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal Brompton Hospital. Alex studied medicine at Oxford University where he gained a first class degree, and studied for his PhD thesis in myocardial gene therapy at Imperial College London. His clinical interests are in the field of heart failure, cardio-oncology and the cardiovascular complications of modern cancer therapies, Takotsubo syndrome, and the development of novel therapeutics including gene therapy for chronic heart failure. Alex was co-chair of the ESC 2022 guideline on cardio-oncology. Alex is chair of the ESC Cardio-Oncology Council (2022-2024) and past-president of the British Cardio-Oncology Society. Alex is a deputy editor of the European Heart Journal (Cardio-Oncology team). Alex was previously a board member of the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology from 2016-2020, where he was chair of the HFA study groups for Cardio-Oncology and Takotsubo Syndrome.
