Professor Bruce Neal

Dr Bruce Neal Bruce Neal is Professor of Medicine at UNSW Sydney, Executive Director of The George Institute Australia and Professor of Clinical Epidemiology at Imperial College London. Bruce completed his medical training at Bristol University in the UK in 1990 and worked four years in clinical posts. Prior to taking up his position at the Institute in 1999 he trained in epidemiology at the Clinical Trials Research Unit in Auckland, where he completed his PhD in Medicine. Bruce has research expertise in the management of high blood pressure and diabetes and has played lead roles in multiple large-scale clinical trials, most recently of SGLT2 inhibition. He also has a longstanding interest in the environmental determinants of chronic disease and the potential for changes in the food supply to deliver large, cost-effective and equitable health gains. He has particular expertise is in the field of salt reduction.
