Martin Orban studied medicine at the University of Munich (2001-2007). He started his internal medicine and cardiology training at German Heart Center Munich and Klinikum Rechts der Isar, Technical University of Munich (2007-2012). He than followed Steffen Massberg to cardiology department, University Hospital of Munich. He is now head of cardiac ICU and his areas of research are cardiogenic shock, mechanical circulatory support, especially veno-arterial extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO), complex VA-ECMO configurations,e.g. combination coaxial pumps (Ecmella) for left ventricular unloading and veno-arterio-venous ECMO (VAV-ECMO) configuration for treatment of concomittant lungefailure. He is as well a interventional cardiologist (PCI, TAVI, MitraClip, TASH, PFO closure, LAA-closure).
