Professor Christian Hamm received his medical training at the Universities of Mainz and Hamburg before undertaking research fellowships at the Ischaemic Heart Research Unit, University of Cape Town and in the Department of Cardiology at the University of Hamburg. He accepted the position of Associate Professor in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the University Hospital in Hamburg in 1989, before becoming Medical Director and Chief of Cardiology at the Kerckhoff Heart and Thorax Center, Bad Nauheim, Germany, in 1999. Since 2013 he is also full Professor of Cardiology and Director of the Medical Clinic I at the University of Giessen, Germany.
His major research interests include acute coronary syndrome, cardiac biomarkers, cardiac MRI and CT, and interventional cardiology. He has been the principle investigator for many national and international multicenter clinical trials and is member of several ESC guideline committees. He serves in the Editorial Boards of many renowned journals.
