Professor Karl-Heinz Ladwig

Karl-Heinz Ladwig is senior research professor at the Medical Faculty of the Technische Universität Muenchen (TUM). His key research interests focus on epidemiological and clinical psychosocial stress-research (Psychocardiology) and metabolic diseases. Here, the crosstalk between autonomic, endocrine regulation patterns and inflammatory stress response system are core areas. Ladwig elucidated the impact of depression as prognostic risk factor during the post-acute course after a myocardial infarction. He studied the quality of survival after cardiac arrest; the long term mortality risk of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder in ICD patients and set up a research focus on Atrial Fibrillation and on delay time during AMI. He received several scientific awards. Ladwig is past chair of the psychosocial DGK-working group, member of the the Munich Heart Alliance. Recently, he chaired an EAPC task force for developing a European position paper on mental health issues in heart failure.
